Documentation and preservation of the Pite-Sámi language
Long-lasting Swedish cultural domination of the Swedish state has led to the near extinction of several Sámi languages. A number of measures to preserve these languages are discussed in the article Documentary Linguistics and Oral History Research. A particular example is the comprehensive linguistic documentation of Pite-Sámi. Pite-Sámi speakers also compiled a word list that has been published as a dictionary complete with orthographic norms (system of pronunciation). This orthography is available online in Swedish.
