In 1996, Erich Kasten organized a tour of the Itelmen ensemble El’vel’ in Germany with the support of Franckesche Stiftungen zu Halle/Saale. The ensemble performed notably as part of the Georg-Wilhelm-Steller exhibition at the Franckesche Stiftungen during the Linden Blossom Festival. Ensemble members then participated together with Itelmen political representatives in a seminar at Freie Universität Berlin. The journey provided an important stimulus to all participants to know more about the modalities of Kamtchatka’s colonization, thanks to Georg Wilhelm Steller’s descriptions.
