In 2004, Erich Kasten organized the tour of the youth dance group Shkolnye Gody in Germany, which he had met for the first time during a workshop in Esso in 2000. Several performances were organized in Northern Brandenburg and Munich. Shkolnye Gody’s repertoire does not only include traditional dances and songs of the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka. Unlike other indigenous ensembles, they also draw on Russian traditions and experiment frequently with modern and foreign stylistic elements, their program thus representing the multiple interests and senses of identity of young people on Kamchatka.
