Seminar on the Koryak language
As part of the project for the documentation and archiving of endangered languages, supported by the ELDP Program of the SOAS University London, a seminar was held at the Foundation for Siberian Cultures from 7-14 January 2020. Together with the indigenous experts Evdokiia Pronina and Lidiia Chechulina and the technical assistant Elvira Kurmasheva from the University of Versailles (UVSQ), Erich Kasten edited some of the recordings in Koryak language that he made in Kamchatka over the past 20 years. These unique video and audio documents have been particularly difficult to decipher. Now, they have not only been archived, they will be also processed for use as learning tools in Kamchatka. During a closing social dinner, there was a lively exchange of Koryak and local folk music traditions with Corry Sindern and her daughter Yolanda.
