The Alkhalalalai Feast of the Itelmen
The Itelmen used to celebrate feasts of reconciliation with nature similar to those of the Nymylan and Aliutor (coastal Koryak). Their livelihood also largely depended on hunting sea mammals. During the Alkhalalalai Feast held since the late 1980s many of the former rituals are staged in scenic representation. The feast and its new meanings have been described in the article Versöhnungsfeste mit der Natur im Nordosten Sibiriens. The Alkhalalalai Feast held in Kovran in 2001 has been documented at length on a DVD.
