Choreographic performances
Motifs from traditional songs and dances can serve as a basis for choreographic representations. On Kamchatka, this genre has been developed from the 1960s on, largely thanks to the ballet master Aleksandr Gil’ from the Ukraine (see also Variatsii tantseval’nykh i muzikal’nykh tradicii). The connection of the Western Art of Ballet and Indigenous traditions of song and dance has become very popular among the local indigenous groups. It also serves the ethnic self-representation in Russia and abroad.
The performances of the ensemble El’vel' have thus become an essential part of the annual Alkhalalalai Feast of the Itelmen, as well as an expression of their ethnic identity during international tours.
Together with local pedagogues and dance artists, workshops were organized in Esso and Ossora, in order to investigate and further stimulate choregraphic performances in youth work in Kamchatka.
The promotion of dance and singing in art classes at school was also documented in Anadyr (Chukotka).
